It’s Time to Move It Move It!

As some of you may know, I am in year 4 of a daily podcast called Bible 365. That’s right, daily. As in…

Every. Single. Day. 😭

As of this writing, including today’s episode that dropped earlier at midnight, there are 1,200 episodes available 😮

One of the things I enjoy most about Bible 365 is the daily devotional at the end of the Scripture readings. My goal has always been to keep each episode under 20 minutes, including the devotional. I prayerfully approach each devotional knowing that there are people in over 100 countries listening, and I don’t know who may need encouragement, inspiration, a challenge, or even gentle correction. Maybe someone is desperately holding on while their life is falling apart, and maybe, just maybe, one simple devotional from this Louisiana boy can give them just a tiny ray of hope.

This is what keeps me at it.

I’ve often thought of putting some of the devotionals in written form, and with 1,200 devotionals (and counting) floating around, there have been quite a few that a very deep impact on my life.

Today I am going to attempt to do just that…put in written form the devotional from yesterday. It will not be the exact same, and as a matter of fact, I’m not even going to listen to it (even though I recorded and edited it 😂). I want it to be different, which should not be difficult as my writing style is very different from how I communicate when speaking.

Side note: AI did not write or help me with this article. I actually remember how to put original thoughts in my mind to written form. But I did let it create the pic 😎

Well I sure took a long time to say that this is my devotional on paper (laptop) that I shared yesterday, but a little different!

It’s called;

It’s Time to Move It Move It

In the very beginning of Deuteronomy, which is also known as the “Book of Remembrance”, we find Moses speaking to a younger generation of Israelites. The older generation (with the exception of Joshua, Caleb, Moses, and the Levites) had died off in the wilderness because of their unbelief, cowardice, and rebellious nature.

For those who may be wondering why God would allow this to happen, you’ll need to go and read Exodus, Leviticus, and Numbers.

Moses’ speech is an extremely long winded historical and even covenantal discourse where he takes this young generation on a journey, reminding them of the stories they had surely heard many times, and perhaps some even witnessed as young children.

As I was reading through Chapter One, I found myself pausing at verses 6 and 7;

The Lord our God said to us at Horeb: “You have stayed at this mountain long enough. Resume your journey…”

I have two observations I want to share.

First, it is important to understand that God was not correcting or rebuking Israel for staying too long at Mount Horeb, but He was letting them know that their season at the mountain was over, and it was time to move it

Mt. Horeb is also Mt. Sinai, and if you recall, it is the place God revealed Himself in absolutely awesome ways both to Moses and Israel.

Mount Horeb was a place of presencepreparationplanning, and even pruning. If you find yourself here, don’t be upset or feel you’ve missed anything. Enjoy the season, whether it is long or short. But when He tells you to move it, you better move it

God’s Promised Land for Israel was not Horeb, but Horeb was a necessary part of the process to get them to the Promised Land.

Second, there are indeed people today who “have stayed at this mountain long enough.”

And this time I am not talking about Mount Horeb.

I am talking about people who have assembled the best (worst, actually) climbing gear available as they ascended Mt. Past, Mt. Offense, and Mt. Pride.

Mount Past: Unable to grasp the present much less the future, because everything is perceived through the lens of yesterday. It clouds your judgment and makes it nearly impossible to be open to what is happening right now. I’VE PLANTED MANY FLAGS ON THIS MOUNTAIN.

Mount Offense: Unwilling to forgive a legitimate or perceived wrong. If not dealt with through forgiveness, it will lead to bitterness which is just like poison. It will sour and twist everything seen or heard.

Mount Pride: Unable to do…anything actually, because God Himself stands against those who set their stakes on this mountain. James 4:6 says that God opposes the proud, but gives grace to the humble. When we move into pride, God becomes our enemy, and that is absolutely terrifying.

If you have spent just one second on any of these mountains, then hear me clearly;

You have stayed at this mountain long enough. It’s time to move it move it!
